General Business Development

  • Reorganized operations, financing and marketing for GRAHAM ASSOCIATES (Washington, DC), repositioning this major government contractor for private sector profitability within 8 months.

  • Developed and negotiated partnership agreements between TIME-WARNER, the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE and other key interests on behalf of the LONG BOAT KEY CLUB, an upscale retirement community in southwestern Florida.

  • Started-up the mid-Atlantic regional office of LIONMARK PUBLICATIONS (Moorestown, NJ), a national trade newspaper publisher. Activities included: market analysis and pro forma; database and circulation development; identification and development of leadership networks; negotiations of all equipment and leases; development and implementation of a multi-tiered marketing plan; recruitment and hires; initial sales and editorial team management.

  • Structured a new partnership/ financing arrangement for CONTRACTOR MAGAZINE prompting a successful turnaround; developed ancillary marketing products that created cross selling opportunities with printing and graphic design divisions.

  • Created and managed COMMONWEALTH COMMUNICATIONS GROUP, a multi-title magazine publishing unit which produced pre-tax profits in the 40% range on revenues of $1.5 million annually.

Activities included: market opportunities analysis; key personnel recruitment; financing negotiations; facility design; equipment procurement; organization of financial control systems; formulation and implementation of initial sales plan.

  • Developed national marketing strategy for AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY’s Voluntary Industry Stanards. Program subsequently led to the adoption of ACS guidelines by most major chemical concerns and to the formation pilot education curricula focused on upgrading the knowledge-base of prospective Chemical Process Industry new hires.

  • Executed major market research project for DAMUTH TRANE, a multi-line mechanical systems supplier and service company, that resulted in the identification of new profit centers, then authored a promotional strategy that lead to successful repositioning.
  • Promotion, Media Relations 

  • Conceived and executed broadscale marketing communication program for BOWA BUILDERS of AMERICA, INC. resulting in home remodeling contracts valued in the $1 million range . Firm was named only real estate interest in INC 500, 1994. Have generated substantial national and regional media placements since 1990.

  • Created and promoted a monthly seminars program for NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF THE
    REMODELING INDUSTRY (Washington, DC chapter) which generated substantial new business
    leads as well as registration fees. Program also resulted in substantial regional media coverage.

  • Developed sales training program for JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT NATIONAL resulting in sales
    of over 7,000 corporations and 100,000 volunteers.

  • Managed press office for the PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURAL COMMITTEE,November, 1988 to
    January, 1989. Assignment including research and publishing of the Media Handbook and the
    development of guideliness for press credentialling and press releases.

    BEVERAGE IMPORTERS ASSOCIATION (EBIA) which included creating and launching EUROPE’S BEST, an ad supported quarterly magazine for beverage retailers.

  • Developed and executed media relations strategy for AMERICA-CHINA CARAVAN (1985) and the CHINA-AMERICA CARAVAN (1987) sponsored by AIRSTREAM TRAILERS and the WALLY BYAM CLUBS.

  • Created a major magazine publishing program for the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BRICK DISTRIBUTORS. The quarterly received numerous citations, including the “Best Public Relations Magazine” award from the American Society of Association Executives.
